New Jersey Restaurateur Expands the “Better Coffee” Movement in New Jersey;
New Location to Add 30 of Jobs to the Local Economy
HILLSIDE, NJ (June 17, 2016) – Ground Connection, a modern day coffee shop serving a unique combination of specialty small batch roasted coffee and espresso drinks alongside a quick casual menu of daily fresh, prepared from scratch, sandwiches, salads, flat bread pizzas, baked goods and more, today announced that its newest shop, located at Harborside Plaza 10, 3 Second Street in Jersey City, will officially open its doors on Thursday, June 23. Owned and operated by Hillside-based, Mascott Corporation, this new Ground Connection is the third location in the Garden State and will add 30 jobs to the local economy.
Ground Connection serves coffee and espresso drinks that are on par with the best specialty coffee bars in the country, along with a variety of delicious food items. Taking a simple and non-intimidating approach, Ground Connection uses high-quality small batch roasted drip coffee and espresso from Toby’s Estate (Brooklyn, New York) available in a 3 oz. Macchiato, 6 oz. Cortado, 8 oz. Cappuccino and 12 oz. Latte. All of its syrups are homemade, including its Belgian chocolate, dulce de leche, vanilla, and for this Summer, toasted coconut. Ground Connection’s friendly and knowledgeable team of expertly trained baristas use farm fresh milk that is hand-steamed to create a thick and creamy texture topped with “latte art.” Looking for something refreshing? Ground Connection serves 18-hour cold brewed iced coffee, several unique blends of iced tea and seasonal homemade lemonades from its super-chilled tap system. The Vanilla Cold Brew Latte is mixed with homemade vanilla syrup and farm fresh milk. Not to be overshadowed by what’s in its cups, the coffee shop has an extensive quick casual menu of delicious food items perfect for eating in or to-go. The new Jersey City location has a hot kitchen serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily – with cooked-to-order items including its B.A.D Sandwich (breakfast all day), Smashed and Seared Certified Angus Burgers, Falafel Burger, Cubano Sandwich and Marinated Kale Chicken Caesar – all made from scratch in-house daily.
“We are excited to announce the official grand opening date of Ground Connection at Harborside Plaza 10 in Jersey City,” said Scott Gillman, Chief Executive Officer of Mascott Corporation. “Jersey City’s vibrant community and thriving food scene makes it a perfect location for the Ground Connection concept. In recent years, I became intrigued by the growing number of specialty coffee shops opening in New York City, especially Williamsburg Brooklyn, and other areas around the country. Having developed restaurants over the past 25 years, I started to consider how we could successfully bring the high-quality, specialty coffee shop experience from across the river to New Jersey. We’re confident we’ve succeeded by combining outstanding coffee, espresso and teas, with fresh, scratch-made food and excellent service in a relaxed coffee shop vibe.”
What’s fresh at Ground Connection? Everything. When it comes to freshness and flavor, Ground Connection believes that the details make the difference, which is why its artisan coffee drinks are complemented by farm fresh milk and its syrups, sauces and salad dressings are made in-house daily. The proof is in the taste. The Ground Connection menu varies at each location, offering unique and tempting choices every day.
Ground Connection in Jersey City will be open daily from 7:00am to – 9:00pm. Convenient dine-in and carry-out orders are available. Guests may reach the restaurant directly by calling (201) 515-2240 or by visiting Facebook. Ground Connection also encourages guests to download its free customer loyalty app available for iPhone (App Store) and Android phones (Google Play) where they can receive a $5.00 instant reward just for downloading.

Aside from a few sprigs of fecundity, the Garden State has long been a specialty-coffee wasteland. Yes, a couple urban hubs along the Hudson River have more than one third-wave cafe to boast of. But ride west and watch the Manhattan skyline shrink in your rearview mirror, along with hopes of finding an espresso pulled by a barista whose company of employment does not have its own brand of K-Cups.
Last year, however, a small, steadily growing coffee-shop enterprise began stirring the pot—the frequently burned coffeepot, some would say—of Jersey’s inner suburbs.
It is called Ground Connection, and it is located in Hackensack, New Jersey. All its coffee comes from Toby’s Estate, the Australian specialty roaster that launched a Brooklyn headquarters nearly four years ago. It uses a three-group La Marzocco Linea PB, three FETCO brewers, and grinders by Nuova Simonelli, Mazzer, and Bunn.
And, gentle drinker, it is in a mall. Read full review >>
